Text: Luke 21:19, ESV.
This text highlights one of the assurances Jesus Christ gave to His disciples before going to the cross. It is a guarantee of life if His disciples were able to withstand the persecutions they were about to face.
Jesus Christ prepares the minds of His disciples for future eventualities they were about to be exposed to because of their decision to follow Him.
Luke 21:15-16 reads, “You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. You will be hated by all for my name's sake.”
Jesus did not only tell them the cost of their decision to be His disciples, but He did also assure them of an imperishable life in the midst of a horrible future before them. Dear ones in the Lord, becoming a Christian is not all that rosy as some have been made to know. There are lots of challenges that befall us simply because of our decision to be a disciple of Jesus Christ [John 15:20]. There were things that we thought gave us comforts that we need to leave behind; friends that we thought were family but now need to disassociate with; families we thought could encourage and give us hope but now will share no ties with them because of our new-found faith.
These are hard to take but Jesus assures us of life if we are able to endure for his sake. It is an assurance of life to live with Him forever where no earthly hardship abound.
