Text: Matthew 26:40-41
“And he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. And he said to Peter, “So, could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
The army prepares in wait for any enemy that may rise against them or prepares to fight in a battle because it wants to capture an enemy’s territory. The teacher prepares in wait for a student who wants to acquire knowledge to enhance his or her future. The health practitioner or doctor prepares in wait to heal the sick and diseases. Our Lord Jesus Christ prepared in wait to sacrifice Himself for our redemption and salvation. What are you in wait for as a Christian? “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Can you imagine what may go on regularly in the minds of the world’s acclaimed footballers or sportsmen? Perhaps “footballers or sportsmen of the year” occupies their thinking. From the beginning of their careers, they get busy practising and playing football matches through to the end; many of them with dream of becoming one day, “footballer of the year.”
The world’s greatest footballers live every day with championship consciousness. The question for meditation today is simply this: “what occupies the thoughts of the Christian on a regular basis? How conscious is the believer of all that happens around him or her including the fact that he or she has become enemy number one in the Kingdom of darkness? The moment we shift from this consciousness, we already have given the victory to the enemy. This is not to mean that we live in constant fear. It means we live in readiness for any eventuality.
Jesus summed it all when He instructed that we should pray and not faint. He said we should watch and pray. The believer who is watching and praying is exhibiting battle consciousness and battle preparedness. Both are needed to guarantee that we can fully enjoy the victory that Jesus has already won for us at Calvary.
Greater is He (God) who has blessed us this morning with this divine message. Preparedness is he or she who seeks understanding from the Lord as he or she reads the Bible. Have a blessed day.
